In keeping with August being hair loss awareness month, I am endeavoring to gather some of the best basic hair growth tips for you here in one easy location. Of course the first thing to recommend would be to take our Advanced Hair Skin Nail Formula for complete hair follicle nourishment from the inside out. Well, that being said lets move on…
There are three steps of hair growth. They include: Anagen, the actual growth phase; Catagen, the rest phase, which lasts three or four months; and Telogen, when your hair unanchors from the follicle and sheds away naturally.
Genetically we’re programmed to our rate of growth but you can improve your lifestyle and hair choices to increase the length of your hair.
Externally, we are constantly traumatizing our hair by pulling it back too tightly, using hot tools on a too-high temperature, brushing it too hard, and basically doing a number on it. All of this causes thinning and breakage.
Internallly, our diet plays a huge role in the overall health of our skin and hair follicles. Healthy follicles are apt to produce faster growing, thicker, more resilient hair.
So the first thing to do is assess your diet and eating habits to see if they need to be improved or changed. Lots of healthy fruits, vegetables, and plenty of proteins are part of a well balanced diet and your skin and hair will show it. Biotin, silica and collagen are particularly effective for hair growth.
You also need to manage stress through working out, doing yoga, meditating—whatever lets you relax. It’s good to do a stress-relieving exercise a few times a week, since it controls your cortisol levels and benefits hair growth because spiked levels of cortisol can lead to hair loss.
Treating your hair carefully, reducing the temp on your irons and blow dryer will keep your hair from drying out and breaking. Doing a hair mask once per week is recommended by experts. Coconut oil seems to be the current favorite mask as I have written about in a earlier blog post.
Keeping your scalp clean by washing your hair regularly with good quality sulfate free shampoo. And don’t forget to moisturize with a high quality conditioner. You may even use a leave in conditioner if your hair is especially damaged. Brush you hair with a good quality boar bristle brush to distribute natural oils from root to tip.
There are many variations on these suggestions, but basically if we take good care of our selves our hair will reward us. Eat a healthy diet, decrease stress, exercise, take vitamins, and treat the hair we have carefully.
There is no need to break the bank on all sorts of fancy products either. Just a few well chosen products will go a long way toward goreous hair.
